William C. Rice

William C. Rice

William C. Rice was born in 1914 and was a fourth generation member of a pioneer family.  His great grandfather, John Rice, came to the Santa Maria Valley in 1873, and was one of the original settlors in Santa Maria.  William attended local schools, the University of California at Berkeley and graduated from Hastings School of Law in 1939.  He also served as city attorney for Santa Maria.

During World War II, William served from 1942 to 1945 as a communications officer in the U.S. Navy.  In 1945, he joined the firm, which was then known as Preisker, Preisker, Goble & Twitchell, and practiced law with the firm until his death in 1960 at the young age of 46, after a battle with leukemia.  At the time of his death, his oldest son, W. Kenneth Rice, was 13 years old.  Ken followed in his father's footstep and joined the firm 20 years later in 1980.
